Everything you need to know about InterviewPrep's AI mock interview — voice recording, scoring, feedback, and how to make the most of every session.
Practice is the single biggest predictor of interview success. Studies show that candidates who rehearse their answers out loud — not just in their heads — perform significantly better under pressure. The Mock Interview feature on InterviewPrep is designed to simulate that pressure and give you real, actionable feedback after every session.
The mock interview is a full end-to-end simulation of a technical or professional interview. The platform picks 15 questions matched to your resume and profile, reads them out to you one at a time, records your spoken answer, transcribes it, and then scores each answer from 0–10 with detailed feedback. At the end, you get an overall score and a complete review of every question.
Go to Mock Test from the nav. If you have a resume uploaded, select it using the radio buttons. The platform automatically detects your profile type and shows the categories your questions will come from. You can override the detected profile using the Override profile dropdown if you want to practise for a different role.
Hit Start Mock Interview → and the session begins immediately.
Each question appears on screen and is read aloud automatically when it loads. Recording starts automatically — just speak naturally as soon as you're ready. You'll see a live timer and a transcript of your words appearing in real time.
A few controls worth knowing:
If your browser doesn't support live speech recognition (common in Brave and Firefox), the platform automatically switches to Offline transcription mode. In this mode, your full answer is recorded as audio and sent to Whisper (OpenAI's speech-to-text model) for transcription after you stop. The quality is excellent — often better than live recognition — but you'll need to wait a few seconds for the transcript to appear after stopping.
In offline mode, you can also click Type instead to type your answer directly if you prefer.
Once you've spoken your answer, click Submit Answer →. The AI evaluates your response against the ideal answer for that question, considering accuracy, completeness, and clarity. Each answer receives:
After all 15 questions, you're taken to your results page. The overall score at the top is the average across all answered questions. Scroll down to see each question, your transcribed answer, the score it received, and the AI's feedback. Use this as a study guide — the feedback tells you exactly what you missed or could have said better.
The mock interview gets better the more you use it. Treat each session as a data point, not a judgment.
